What to include

A subject line that states the purpose
The page URL, if the message concerns an article on this site
A locatable reference for a proposed historical correction: work, scroll or chapter, edition or repository, and page or image number
No confidential information, no sensitive personal data, and no payment details

How corrections are handled

Every article here quotes a short passage from a primary source and builds a fresh translation around it. Manuscripts and printed editions differ. Scroll and chapter numbering differs. A translator choosing between two defensible readings can choose badly. There is no shortage of places for an error to enter, which is why source corrections are the most useful message this site receives.

A report is easiest to act on when it points at a specific word and a specific witness:

Regarding your article on [work] (URL).
The phrase rendered “[translation]” reads differently in the [edition] text, scroll [n], section [n], image [n].

Where the difference comes from the manuscript tradition rather than from an error, the article is not rewritten to declare a winner. The divergence itself is added to the page, because that is what the evidence actually shows. Where the mistake is the editor’s, the article is corrected and the correction is recorded with its date.

Questions about the books

Questions about the content of a translation, a term chosen in one of the published volumes, or the relationship between a book and an article on this site can be answered here.

Purchases, payment, delivery, and refunds cannot. Those transactions belong to Amazon, so please contact Amazon customer service from the account used for the purchase.

Quoting and reuse

Quoting part of an article with a link back to the page it came from is fine and needs no permission. Reproducing an entire article, reproducing most of one, or republishing a translated version of one is not.

The original-language passages quoted in the articles come from transcriptions and images held by libraries and archives. Those institutions set their own conditions for the manuscripts and printed editions themselves. The editions and repositories used are listed in the source and citation policy.

What this address cannot answer

Because the site reads ninjutsu manuals and military classics, certain requests arrive regularly. None of them will be answered.

Formulas, compositions, or procedures for explosives, poisons, or weapons
Methods for entering premises, following people, or intercepting communications
Advice on performing a technique described in a historical text

This site exists to establish what these books say and how they say it. It does not teach the practices they describe. The disclaimer covers this in more detail.
